Questionnaire made before production and planning
In this questionnaire I tied to make it representative of the male and female audiences.
I chose 5 girls and 5 boys, in order to achieve this.
Instead of choosing random individuals I chose people who are enthusiastic about film, and have knowledge about it. This will be beneficial since it will give me valid and reliable results.
This result reinforces the fact that these individual are enthusiastic about film, as the majority of the result show that they watch films on a regular basis. Their regular viewings of the film highlight their understandings of films; this will help them answer the following questions.
I expected this result, the most popular genres Action Adventure and Horror would obvious have the majority. The result shows that the genre ‘social realist’ a genre which my film will be based on is unpopular in comparison to Horror and Action Adventure. This made me think about weather I should make a social realist film, since its audiences’ viewing isn’t sufficient
This result made me understand what I had to do in order to keep the audiences satisfied, as you can see the film has be entertaining for this reason he storyline has to be interesting and exciting and create suspense up until the end. The audiences also want to watch a film that creates awareness on an issue therefore depicting an issue which they have minimal or even no knowledge on.
At the same time the film should be creative in terms of production, so there has to be shots which are imaginative and innovating also have some special effects in it.
Despite the fact that the participants prefer other genres then social realist this result showed me that they still like social realism. For this reason I’m satisfied with the fact that the majority of participants enjoy social realist; this means that they will be willing to watch a social realist films.
This undermines the previous result even though they like social realist the length in which they watch social realist isnt lengthy. This highlighting the reality behind social realism, it’s not a genre which people are keen to watch but its more like a genre which people would watch when it’s on.
This result shows me that the audiences want me to stay in touch with the social realist genre by representing real life which is the essence of social realism. Similarly they also want me to create awareness on an issue. For these reason the audiences want me to stay true to the social realist genre. As you can see none of the audiences want humor since it’s not relevant to this genre.
Social realist films are usually about murder, crime and theft. This result highlights how these participants want something different like teenage depression and drugs. This made me more certain about creating a film about depression since its something different, also it will create awareness which is what these participants want.
My certainty about creating a film about depression was strengthened by this result. All the participants apart from one will go and see a film about depression. As a result of this I am 100% certain about creating a film about depression since all these participants are willing to watch it.

Editing Sound
At first I assumed that editing the sound would be much more difficult and complicated. I was wrong, the same software used for editing the film was used for this, so it required me to use the same technique used for editing the film.
As you can see in the image editing the film was exactly the same as editing the sound. The only thing i had to do was to just press the split clip button to edit the sound from where i wanted it to start and end.
Difficulties
In some cases there was sound, voice over’s and footages being played at the same time in the film, for example when he’s writing the suicide note and reading it aloud, and in the park when he’s screaming as he hears the scribbling. Having to put in place sound, voice over’s and footage simultaneously was difficult.
This image will explain
As you can see Audio 1 is footage, audio 2 is the voice over, and audio 3 is the sound. In the editing section of the image, the first section is of him writing you the suicide note and reading it out load in the voice over, the next block in the editing section is of him writing faster and reading the suicide note loudly because he hears the scribbling in audio 3. Having to arrange this was difficult, since each footage had to be the same length for example the writing of suicide note had to be in the same pace with the voice over and the sound of the scribbling had to be the same length with the footage (as when he writes faster the scribbling gets loader). This required a lot of time and focus, but was made easy since I was able to cut the footage and sound of the scribbling and make it in same pace with the voice over (something which I wasn’t able to cut, since i recorded each voice over once). This was also made easy since I was able to stretch tool to slightly fast forward the footage so it matches the voice over. As I gave the editing process I lot of time, I was eventually able to match all the audios together.

Recording voice over
In the voice over recordings, I used a recorder. I used this because I was not able to have access to the studios in the music dep, I was told by the head of music that sessions were booked for the week because of the Christmas concert. He then advised me to use this portable recorder, since its portable I was able to record the voice over’s straight away since me and Dylan had a free period. It also had a cover; this was beneficial since it improved the quality of the sound. Using it wasn’t too difficult I just had to press record, it also allowed me to replay the recording, this allowing me to hear what i being produced and therefore decide weather it was usable and in the right tone.
